Replacing the top on a VW Thing

Any hints on how to replace the convertible top. We cannot seem to get it to stretch enough to go over the hooks. Help! The Woodward Dream Cruise in Michigan is coming up and we need to have our Thing in tip top shape!

If I could recommend anything, I would call up the actual manufacturer. They could probably help you obtain any sort of missing parts or instruction manuals that you may have misplaced in the purchase of your vehicle. If you can't get in touch with the manufacturer, I'd simply call your vendor up and perhaps they can help supply you with some vital information concerning the roof of your vehicle. Good luck!
Volkswagens are BOSS . . . just don't put any vehicle wraps on em'.
