Transporter Tranny Exchange

Postby vincent52100 » Thu Nov 20, 2008 10:36 pm

Hi. New to the board. I have a question about my 73 Transporter. It was originally a 1700cc with an automatic transmission. It sat in the desert out west for about ten years. I pulled the engine and found that the A/T was broken (the case was broken). I also found the engine case was broken where someone had tried to pry it apart with one of the bolts still in it. I got an 1800cc engine that seems to be pretty much a straight fit. I got a tranny out of a 77 and found that there are some differences in the rear mount and the shift linkage. I was able to modify the rear mount. I am wondering about the shift linkage though. I'm going to get the linkage from the van the tranny came out off. Does anyone have any thoughts on what I am facing? Thanks!
