Bug does a barrel roll

It was the early '70's, I'm driving s/b on the Golden State near Griffith park, (the place where there's maybe 5 lanes in one direction). It's very crowded - every lane is full - 15' or so apart - and speeding along at 70mph. It's a situation where one wrong move and, well, you get the picture.
I'm in the #1 lane, two cars ahead of me is a yellow VW Bug. Suddenly, without provocation, the Bug hits the K-rail, shoots into the air, about 10', does a barrel roll, lands back on its wheels, and ......keeps driving!
Yes, it's true. I noticed the cars around me to make sure all was going to be Ok. Several of them did a little swerving motion, but stayed in their lanes, whew.
I gotta hand it to VW for making a car able to handle whoever was driving it.
