About 5 years ago, before i retired, I bought a VW beetle to save on gas going to and from work.
I didn't know much about "bugs",other than it was cheaper on gas than my "84 Buick Riviera.
The reason I'm posting this is : On paper the registration says it's a 1963 VW. The fenders are
from 1957 with the bullet type turn signals. The back windows are split top 1952. The top of
the VW has the canvas square slide opening ( not a convertible ).The wheels have the old style
moon shape hubcaps with "VW" in the center. Banjo steering wheel with old-style VW in the center.
I bought it from a mother whose son either had lost interest or funds…not sure ! Anyway, the
price was right because it was just sitting there in the backyard and she wanted to get rid of it.
I figured it was a good deal and all the fiberglass work that was done was real good job. But I
discovered that it was all metal body,no plastic was used. The welds…I can't tell where
they start….no bondo of any kind. It looks just like any other VW…..that's what I thought, until
I started reading and checking and I realize that it is a real cool VW from the early years. Not
a day goes by, people wave or want to know if I will sell it. Like I said, I just joined and as
soon as I can, I'll post some pictures of my "frankenstein" classic !
