Need some tips, guys!

Hey there, everyone! I am thinking about buying a 1971 VW Super Beetle. I don't know much about them (or cars for that matter...) Hopefully, some of you can give me some tips. My main reason for buying the car is to get my from home to school...school to work....work back to home. It's short money (listed as 1,000 bucks...) I'm a college kid...so i figured it would be something easy and cheap to maintain (cute...and fun to drive!!!) My sister-in-law's father rebuilt two of them and my father owned one. Both of them have told me that they are pretty solid pieces of gear. I was just hoping I could get some pointer or some more advice about the car. I'm going to check it out on Tuesday, is there anything specific I should be looking for in terms of mechanical or body issues??
