Fun with Barrett-Jackson this week

Postby mystarcollectorcar » Sun Jan 17, 2010 9:47 pm

We're definitely not the biggest Barrett-Jackson fans but it is a big TV event this week so we decided to have a little fun with it.We're going to have a fictional bidder (average guy with a skeptical wife) and show how and why he bids on odd cars every day at the auction.

Okay-we're set up for Tuesday Day 1-I should preface this by saying that we picked two cars for day one because it's bargain day.
The rest of the week we'll focus on just one car.By the way, they change the lineup quite a bit at B-J because we had to go with 2 other cars for our "buyer" after they eliminated our picks from the site.
But it just adds to the excitement for our rookie buyer.

Day One went okay for our make-believe bidder. His drunk bids were way out of the reality range, but his sober bid on the Volvo was dangerously close-and the excessive bid on the 65 Chrysler wasn't a deal breaker.

Most wives can live with a $3000 error-to a point.

The Day 2 bid is one of those "who knows?" scenarios because any custom stuff on a car changes the game and it could get worse with drunken nostalgia in the mix.

Let the fun begin.

Day 3 was a disaster for our fictional average car guy-but he was within 700 bucks on the old police car.

Day 4-tough call-celebrity cars are really hard to pin down.

Ghostbusters car hasn't come up yet-who knows where our guy is going to be on that one?
Saturday his pick doesn't make any more sense...

Okay-SUNDAY'S the last day for Barrett-Jackson and I'm going to tape it for 3 reasons...
1-NFL playoffs.
2-I can whip through the advertising saturation bombing.
3-Don't have to watch a burned out rock star throw in a signed guitar to hype his car on the block.

For some reason our (sober) fantasy bids were really close on the celebrity iron-right on the number for the Ghostbuster Caddy and within 3 K for the Sonny and Cher George Barris 66 Mustangs. No expertise-just guessing and luck.

Sunday's fantasy bid is a relatively normal car-had enough of Hollywood cars and the show is over.
