rent rates these days

Postby Geeky June » Thu Aug 17, 2006 5:54 am

what are your peoples opinions about the inflated rental rates in the past 3-4 years? do any of you guys remember the time when you were able to afford to pay an apt. rent on a minimum wage job. What kind of an economy is it where people need to split the costs with a roomie just to get by. f****** outrageous.

Ever see the movie Failure to Launch? or perhaps 40 year old virgin? ...

Just giving you a hard time - I pulled that trick until my mid-twenties. Saves a bunch on rent, plus the free food ain't bad.

not exactly free rent i still have to work for it (dug hole for small swiming pool yesterday with just shovels)

but most of my money is for me. i guess thats how ive managed to drop over $20k into my V8 Lamborghini kitcar in less then a year.

it works out alright

a free market economy...........if you have a rental you get what the market will pay......of course if property taxes were lower, contractors charged less for maintenance, landscapers charged less, etc., I guess rents would be lower.

One day someone will explain to me how the government can justify raising the tax on a piece of property every time it sells. one day the government collects say $2k per year, the property sells and now the new owner who paid three times the price the previous owner paid and gets stuck with triple the tax bill on a piece of land the government was happy collecting $2k for before.

can you tell I have been involved in some transactions lately

Its cheaper to rent than to buy a house here in OC Calif.

2 bedroom house $750,000.00
2 bedroom condo $350,000.00

2 bedroom apartment $1500 to $2000 a month -
1 bedroom apartment $1000 to $1300 a month

I would rather rent for now.

It's so tough to buy right now & to sell. What will happen?

I'm from the UK and even the renting prices are just shooting up!
I'm currently renting from my partners father, but come september I'm finindg a new place because the property is being sold.

Saving up for the Deposit, Few months rent up front and Furnishings + estate agents fees isnt to fun!
